The goal of the collaborative research project “FutureHotel” is to prepare project partners from the hotel ecosystem for future developments and to actively shape the future of the hotel industry together. Against this backdrop, the innovation network combines various services, including: In January 2025, “FutureHotel” launched its new Research Phase VIII (2025–2027). The following key themes guide the innovation network through the current project phase: To answer the research questions, we apply a variety of methods, such as trend and innovation scouting, conducting surveys, developing future scenarios, strategy development methods, and testing and evaluating new solutions in laboratory settings.

• Selection of scientifically curated insights based on continuous trend scouting that extends beyond the hotel industry
• Conducting empirical studies to create a solid data foundation
• Active discussion within the network of these insights and new findings in diverse, analog and digital, often creative formats
• Consistent scientific support for innovation projects among network partners
• Publication of research findings in white papers and studies, and their incorporation into presentations
   

• Circular economy: What solutions does the sustainable and smart hotel of the future offer for challenges such as rising energy costs, resource scarcity, growing demands, shifting demand, and social responsibility?
• The Hotel Workplace: How are job roles and employee profiles changing due to the use of robots and artificial intelligence, as well as automation and digitalization in the hotel industry? How can new partnerships strengthen the hotel ecosystem? And what role do community building and management play in recruiting and retaining employees?
